Role of a Front-end Developer-
The front-end is the user interface of a Web or Mobile Application. The front end developer does all the UI and UX parts, which constitutes the presentation layer. The front end is the interactive platform where users perform certain activities, and the developers display results on the screens. Front-end development comprises of understanding the creatives, the market trends, users' ease of navigation, and positioning of the required elements.
An excellent front end developer needs to know HTML, HTML5, JavaScript, and CSS. Angular JS is also a part of interactive UI and UX development. Today any B2B or B2C application needs to have minimal user time on the interface to yield the desired results, auto-population of data, form validations, floating data from one form to another, and side navigation items for keeping marketing & promotional stuff. A good front-end developer has to have insight.
The front-end Developer must be able to identify the answers to the following questions:
- What is the most relevant information that you need to keep in the interface?
- What are the most useful buttons and icons to keep for Quick Access?
- How to engage the users throughout the application journey?
- How to prepare a dashboard or welcome screen to brand a company or product?
- How to minimalize the form validation and filling up mandatory information?
- How can you avoid keeping ambiguous and repetitive icons or buttons in the interface?
The objective of designing a Web or Mobile Application is to ensure that when the users open up the application, they see the information in a format that is easy to read and relevant. The complicated part of it is that users now use a wide range of devices with varying screen sizes and resolutions. Hence, the designer or developer has to consider all the above aspects while designing the layout of a site. They need to ensure that their website appears correctly in different resolutions, devices, and browsers.
As today most of the people are mobile-friendly, every application must be mobile responsive, and hence, developers widely use HTML5. For Mobile App development, the Native and Hybrid frameworks both have a lot of UI/UX stuff where the developer needs to do. The Adaptor creation involves converting the Photoshop designs into Mobile ready screens on which the developers write the functionality code.
Role of a Back-End Developer-
Back-end Development refers to server-side development. It is related to all the behind-the-scenes activities that are involved in performing any action on a website. It could include logging in to your account, purchasing a product from an online store, etc.
The back-end developer concentrates on databases, the architecture, and the scripting of websites. Code written by back-end developers helps to communicate the database information to the browser. The most common example of Back-end programming is the Blog Website. The fonts, colors, designs, layout, etc. constitute the front-end of the page. The content of the article rendered from a server and fetched from a database constitutes the back-end part of the application.
Following are a few examples of Server-side scripting languages:
- Java
- Ruby
- PHP
- Python
- .Net
A back-end developer works with the following Web Development Languages:
- Database and cache
- Server
- API (REST & SOAP)
Responsibilities of Back-end Developer include the following:
- The back-end developer understands the objective of the website and comes up with practical solutions.
- Storing and required data with proper table relationships in place.
- Payment processing, Data Security, Encryption, holding financial information in a Database are the primary roles.
- Managing API resources.
- Creating reports and analytics from the Database.
- Cross-device support for different file formats.
- Back-end developers should have the skill for implementing algorithms and solving system-related problems.
Developing Languages.
Back-end engineers should know at least one server-side programming language like Java, Python, Ruby, .Net, etc.
Monitor Database and Cache.
Know about various DBMS technology is another vital prerequisite for back-end developers. MySQL, MongoDB, Oracle, SQL Server, Redis are widely useful for this purpose. Knowledge of caching mechanisms like varnish, Memcached, Redis is a plus.
Exposure to handling Apache, Nginx, IIS servers, Microsoft IIS is desirable. A good background in Linux helps tremendously in administering servers.
API (REST & SOAP):
Knowledge of web services or API is also essential for full-stack developers. Experience of creations and consumption of REST and SOAP services is desirable.
You can find a lot of frameworks for these scripting languages mentioned above, and these frameworks support several in-built functions that support eCommerce activities, interactions with the Database, analytics-based dashboards, and user community-related features. While becoming a back-end developer, one needs to be familiar with the Database queries and Normalization techniques. The most proficient back end developers spend years sharpening their skills. Taking on a varied range of practical back end development projects is the best way to become a versatile back end professional.
Role of a Full Stack Developer
Full-stack development includes considering both the front end and back end activities. Necessarily, it is any web development project that would typically require both a front-end developer and back end developer. A full-stack developer performs the roles of both sides. A developer who knows MySQL or MongoDB, Node JS and Angular JS, can be termed as a full-stack developer.
These developers can handle jobs in both front end and back end development. Not only do full stack developers for hire have great coding and time management skills, but they are also the masters of communicating with customers. Often, a full stack developer will be the contact person for a business owner in need of a mobile or web-based app. Taking the needs of a client, and putting this information to use during the development process is a lot more of a complex process than it may seem. Success as a full stack developer will be hard-earned, but well worth the time and effort you invest. The best solution for you to avoid common full-stack development mistakes is by working with an experienced mentor.
In short, a full stack developer deals with both the front and back ends of a website or application. They have education and talent to handle projects that involve databases, building user-facing websites, working with clients while planning the projects.
- They are familiar with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and one or more back end languages.
- Most full-stack developers specialize in a particular back end programming language, like Ruby or PHP or Python
- Some full-stack developers, especially in 2019, also learn either project management, visual design, web design, or user experience skills—to complete their "stack."
A point to note is that a lot of people think, "full-stack" means that a developer is entirely writing the code of a site all by themselves. Many full stack web developers spend the maximum of their time in either the front or back end code of a website. And that is a fact! They have sufficient knowledge about the code across the entire stack. Hence, they can dive in anywhere when his knowledge and skills are in demand. It is also a fact that some full stack developers do code entire websites, including both the front end and the back end. But this is usually a case only when they are working as a freelancer or maybe are the only single developer working on a specific project.
